Think of the deck of tarot cards as an unbound book. The cards tell a story depending on the answer you seek and how they will lay out. It is up to you on how the book will be read.

When you obtain your first deck of cards begin to look at them and study them. There are literally thousands of different decks of tarot cards. The imagery will vary from deck to deck. The tarot relies heavily on symbolism. Some symbolism are very subtle.

When studying your cards you must clear your mind. What is the imagery in the card telling you? What vibes do you receive from the picture? This you will find out will vary greatly.

Now I will confuse you a little. Each card has an overall message and meaning. For example the fool card represents a journey or quest. But when laid out you might get a certain meaning of the journey depending on spread and what certain symbol sticks out in your mind.

Really the only way you will get more comfort and meaning from the cards is to use them and to read about spreads, meanings and combinations. The tarot is meant to be a tool used to direct your mind's third eye or foresight. The cards themselves are never set in stone when it comes to meaning and direction that is totally up to you. You are the car and the cards are the driver. They are meant to take you on a journey of enlightenment and exploration.

Recently, I purchased a set of Tarot cards from a second-hand book store. I knew a bit about Tarot readings, but it had been a while since I'd conducted one. I went online in search of various Tarot spreads and card meanings. After a couple of days' worth of studying, I decided to start doing readings for friends and acquaintances. Sharing my experience is part of the fun, and hopefully this will help someone out there enjoy the power of Tarot Card Readings!

Where to begin:

When you first purchase your deck of cards, spread them all out on a table or the floor to shuffle them up. Gather them together and re-shuffle with your hands, like you would an ordinary set of playing cards. (It's best to not use a card shuffler since the whole goal here is to “season” your cards by touching them. The more you use your cards, the more attached and familiar you will begin to feel with the deck. This will tone your psychic abilities and give you more powerful readings.

Next, choose a Tarot Card Spread, which will tell you the pattern in which to lay out your cards. These range from a very basic 3-card spread to a much more involved 32 card spread. My favorite is the Celtic Cross spread, which involves 10 cards. This is the one I will reference in this “How To” review.

Now, have the person whose cards you are reading relax and focus on their question or problem. Give them a few minutes to do so – they may request that you leave the room, or they may want to listen to music. Do whatever will help them clear their minds and relax.

When they are ready, have them state their question or concern briefly to you. Have them shuffle the deck themselves a few times, until they are ready to choose their cards. Some people like to pull random cards from the deck, others like to cut the deck and deal in order from the top. You can use either method you'd like. Personally I've found the readings to be more accurate when the cards are randomly chosen from the deck.

As the cards are pulled, have the person lay them down on the table in the order of the spread you've selected (see picture for reference). Once all of the cards are laid out on the table, you can begin the reading. Here is a brief overview of the card meanings, as related to the picture “Celtic Cross 10 Card Spread”.

Card 10 = Probable Outcome

Flip the first card over – being careful to not flip it onto it's reverse side upside-down. Reversed cards hold different & important meaning, so you don't want to cause a card to be reversed when it originally wasn't. Read & interpret the cards one at a time. Your deck of cards probably came with a small booklet that gives a brief description of what each card means. When interpreting the meaning of the cards, tune in to the person's question, and relate the meaning of the card at hand to their individual situation. Here's a brief example:

Yesterday, I did a fast reading for an expectant mother, and used the 10 card Celtic Cross Spread. She had no specific question, just wanted an analysis of her current situation in life. It was a pretty amazing and spooky reading! I was shocked when I turned over the very first card in the “present” position. It was the Empress card, depicting a picture of a pregnant empress! Sometimes, the meaning of the cards is not quite so literal. Here is what Aeclectic Tarot has to say about this card:

“The Empress Card is one of the easier trumps to read. She is Mother. Generally, Mother in a good sense – patient, loving, giving, generous.” The mother whose reading I was generating was not much of a believer until after seeing this card. She (and I as well) was amazed at the accuracy of her cards. The rest of her reading went on to reveal the need for patience, keeping in good health, and growing within the love of her family. She has a very close-knit family, and her cards explained that her life is full of support from them.

I also did a reading for a girl whom I am friends with. She had questions about romance and love. I did a 5 card spread for her, which revealed three upside-down cards. The entire reading warned her that selfish, egotistical, juvenile and closed-minded behavior is impeding her love life as well as her life in general. It advised her to take control of her life, or otherwise remain “trapped” in her present dilemma. Seeing as how I know this person, I was very easily able to relate the cards to her situation. She is currently in a household where her every move is watched and she is unable to live freely.

When a card is upside-down, it usually has the reversed meaning. For example, her “Present” card was the reversed Devil, which warns of entrapment or imprisonment – a symbol of her current situation.

Taurus is sensual, which Aries will appreciate. The problem is that Taurus moves too slowly for the likes of Aries, who needs constant stimulation. Taurus won't always appreciate the fiery Aries' ability to rush headlong into new projects or to take big risks. On the plus side, Virgo can show Aries how to be more practical and methodical and how to make rational choices.

In palm reading, your life line is often the first line a psychic or palm reader examines. It is mostly concerned with the physicality of the querent's life: his health, energy level, activity level, and major life events. It can be compared to an astrological natal chart in some ways, as it is used to look at the entire life of a querent, though it is more limited when used by itself. As with many components of chiromancy, the meanings in the life line are dependent on the line's appearance as well as the influence of a host of other nearby palmar marks.

The Palm's Life Line: Overview and Beginning

The life line begins between the Jupiter and Mars mounts on your palm (the two raised spots on your hand directly below the index finger — Jupiter is on the top, Mars just beneath close to your thumb), and it wraps around your thumb, to end somewhere near the base of the palm. Deeply etched life lines generally indicate very outdoorsy people who love being outside or prefer to work outdoors. Lighter life lines may indicate individuals with problems that prevent them from enjoying life to the fullest.

The ideal life line is one that is strong and solid with few interruptions, chains, or branches. This is the line of someone whose energies can be directed toward his or her own life effectively; often, a person with this strong life line is highly successful at everything they attempt. Expect some chaining at the beginning of everyone's life line, though; the less there is here, the more quickly your querent focuses on problems or pleasures.

In a few cases, the life line will start solid with no chaining at all; these rare individuals tend to be very independent and open. Excessive chaining indicates a person who is too dependent upon others, a tendency that started in childhood. Vague beginnings to life lines indicate an illness in infancy, a hard birth, or even an element of mystery around life's start, like a closed adoption.

When Other Lines Interfere

The life line and head line, which starts just above it, may have linked beginnings. People with this kind of palm tend to allow outside forces to control their lives. A querent with clear, separate life and head lines is the most independent of all, and is probably a leader of people.

Life lines that start high up on the hand indicate people who are very confident, perhaps overconfident, but who have difficulty accepting responsibility for their own errors. Lower-starting life lines belong to more easygoing people.

If you have a line passing through your life line, it probalby indicates a family member or close friend who interferes with your life, probably getting in the way of your personal goals and desires.

Sometimes the fate line, which runs from the center base of your palm more or less straight up the palm to end between the middle and ring finger, will start at the end of the life line. (Note: not everyone has a fate line, so if you don't see one, don't panic). This is a great sign; it indicates that family members are actively involved in your querent's pursuit of his dreams, and often indicates a family business. This person has a supportive family for his goals.

Beside the life line, there may be a smaller line nearer the thumb. This is called the line of Mars, and indicates added energy and zest for life in the querent. If the line is so well-developed that it appears to be two parallel life lines, the querent is one of those rare people who can live two separate lives without getting entangled in them.

Look for other lines leading upward from the life line. Each line originating here is an influence line. Most will be aimed toward a finger. If you can trace these, they will tell you what the querent has tried to improve in his or her life: toward the index (Jupiter) finger, personal finance and career; toward the middle (Saturn), self-discipline; toward the ring (Apollo), artistic and creative issues or possibly the pursuit of love; and toward the pinky (Mercury), commercial issues (like small businesses, etc.)

Look at the curve of the life line on both hands. Does one sweep further out into the palm, while the other hugs the thumb or flattens out? This is significant. If the nondominant hand has the flat or close line, it indicates that the querent has tried to overcome a difficult beginning in his or her life, probably multiple times, and probably successful. If the dominant hand has the flat or close line, your querent has given up on fixing issues, and accepts the status quo as the best he or she can do, probably mistakenly. This is something to consider in the context of the entire palm reading.

End of the Life Line

The life line ends somewhere near the base of the palm, though there are people whose life lines wrap well around the mound at the thumb's base. Its length does not necessarily indicate the length of life, though a very long line is encouraging.

Does the line break up as it passes the halfway point, or does it remain solid and stable til close to the end? If the first, your querent has trouble with change – either doesn't handle it well, or has too much chaos in his or her life. If the second, your querent is fortunate in that he or she does not get upset, and sails through the hurricanes of life with little difficulty.

If the line shows a lot of breaking up at the end, warn any older querents. This indicates a life that has taken on too much, and if you can keep them from committing to too many things late in life, you may be their savior.

A forked end in a life line indicates a restless person; this is the querent who buys a Winnebago and travels through the country after retirement.

Jesus did not write a book that allowed his apostles or his followers to learn how to raise people from the dead, heal the sick and produce miracles. He did however tell them that if they had faith the size of a mustard seed, that anything was possible. However, not all of Jesus' disciples can do a miracle even with a lot of faith and the belief that Jesus Christ is their Lord and savior. There is no explanation that anyone can give as to why some of Jesus' disciples can do miracles and many of them cannot. Is it all about faith or is something more here to the story. I wish that I could tell you that all you had to do was find one of Jesus' followers and you would be healed of anything. I know that this is not always the case and I am not sure why.

Prophets and psychics have long been known for predicting the future and for opening their heart to helping others. A lot of psychics and prophets have taken a lot of blows from skeptics because they are not always correct. In order to be correct all of the time during a psychic reading, the psychic has to make sure that they are 100% calm and relaxed and also able to focus completely on their client. If even 1% of them are nervous, the psychic reading will be somewhat inaccurate.

The ancient prophets use to meditate and pray daily, weekly, monthly and yearly before giving a prophetic word to someone. Please keep in mind that a reputable psychic is not trying to make things up during your psychic reading. If they are getting things completely wrong for you, then it's because they are extremely nervous and they are not focused. They may appear calm to you, but believe me, they are very nervous. The psychic is nervous because they are afraid that they may not see anything for you or they will get the psychic word incorrectly. I usually stop the reading and I let the psychic know that I will call them back at another time when they are less distracted.

If a psychic has too much on their mind, then the psychic reading may get messed up as well. You have to watch your psychic or listen to their voice tones. If they sound nervous or distracted, then you might as well discontinue the psychic reading because you will not be able to get any accurate psychic information.

I also recommend that you get a psychic reading by a reputable psychic that may not be busy all of the time. If you are to busy, then your mind is always elsewhere and there is no way that you can get an accurate psychic reading. Sometimes a busy psychic will be able to give you an accurate psychic word if they are more focused that day because they are having a slow day or because they just came out of prayer and meditation. The best time to get a psychic reading with a professional psychic is when they have finished meditating or praying.
